The finished products are then tested for a final time to once again ensure the safety, quality, and cannabinoid content of our products. This is our standard Triple Lab Testing™ process that all our CBD oil products complete.
CBD was isolated from the cannabis plant in 1940 independently by Adams and Todd and their colleagues. They assessed CBD and considered it to be biologically inactive. The chemical structure of CBD was fully established in 1963 by Mechoulam and Shvo.
We just stated that CBD is fairly unique as far as cannabinoids go, because it does not seem to interact directly with either the CB1 or CB2 receptors. So what does it do if it’s not interacting directly with our receptors?
The compound has also shown promise in treating anxiety, depression and schizophrenia. Much of this work has been in rats and mice, but several studies have found benefits for humans. For instance, German researchers showed in 2012 that giving CBD to schizophrenic patients reduced psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations and disordered thinking.

Technically, CBD and its sister cannabinoid compounds are classified as phytocannabinoids, which means that they’re derived from plants. But there are also several other types of cannabinoids you should know about too.
Not only did the medicine help, it did so without making him high. The strain of marijuana that Jackson takes is unusual: It contains high levels of cannabidiol, or CBD, one of the two main molecules in marijuana; the other is tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. While THC is famously mind-altering, CBD is not.
Several industrial hemp varieties can be legally cultivated in western Europe. A variety such as “Fedora 17” has a cannabinoid profile consistently around 1% cannabidiol (CBD) with THC less than 0.1%.
Nonetheless, it is impossible to get “high” by smoking or ingesting CBD-high hemp (that has only traces of THC), as it is also impossible to get high by consuming CBD oil products (that contain virtually no THC).
To date, 23 states and the District of Columbia have passed laws allowing marijuana to be used for a variety of medical conditions. Fifteen additional states have enacted laws intended to allow access to CBD oil and/or high-CBD strains of marijuana. Interest in the potential therapeutic effects of CBD has been growing rapidly, partially in response to media attention surrounding the use of CBD oil in young children with intractable seizure disorders including Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. While there are promising preliminary data, the scientific literature is currently insufficient to either prove or disprove the efficacy and safety of CBD in patients with epilepsy.i and further clinical evaluation is warranted. In addition to epilepsy, the therapeutic potential of CBD is currently being explored for a number of indications including anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, schizophrenia, cancer, pain, inflammatory diseases and others. My testimony will provide an overview of what the science tells us about the therapeutic potential of CBD and of the ongoing research supported by NIH in this area.
Hemp and marijuana are cousins in the plant world, but marijuana has a much higher THC content than hemp. Hemp oil contains low levels of CBD – typically less than 25 parts per million – while CBD oil can be up to 15% CBD. Because the plants are related, some unscrupulous sellers of hemp oil are trying to market it for its medicinal value, which is negligible.

Decades of research indicate that cannabinoids like CBD interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, a complex system that contributes to a variety of biological processes like inflammation responses, relaxation, sleeping, and appetite. By linking with the two main types of cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2, which are found on cells throughout the body, CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system, helping it in the regulation of homeostasis — the body’s natural state of balance.
Cannabidiol is POSSIBLY SAFE when taken by mouth and appropriately in adults. Cannabidiol doses of up to 300 mg daily have been used safely for up to 6 months. Higher doses of 1200-1500 mg daily have been used safely for up to 4 weeks. Cannabidiol sprays used under the tongue have been used in doses of 2.5 mg for up to 2 weeks.
CBD has also been shown to have neuroprotective properties in cell cultures as well as in animal models of several neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s,xii, xiii, xiv stroke,xv glutamate toxicity, xvi multiple sclerosis (MS),xvii Parkinson’s disease, xviii and neurodegeneration caused by alcohol abuse.xix Nabiximols (trade name Sativex), which contains THC and CBD in roughly equal proportions, has been approved throughout most of Europe and in a number of other countries for the treatment of spasticity associated with MS. It has not been approved in the United States, but clinical trials are ongoing, and two recent studies reported that nabiximols reduced the severity of spasticity in MS patients.xx,xxi There have been limited clinical trials to assess the potential efficacy of CBD for the other indications highlighted; however, a recent small double-blind trial in patients with Parkinson’s disease found the CBD improved quality-of-life scores.xxii
Several scientific reports demonstrate that CBD benefits include possessing antiproliferative, pro-apoptotic effects that inhibit cancer cell migration, adhesion and invasion. (9) A 2006 study published in the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics found for the first time that CBD potently and selectively inhibited the growth of different breast tumor cell lines and exhibited significantly less potency in non-cancer cells. “This bill will help get sick children potentially life-changing medicine. By crafting the legislation in a way that allows for tightly controlled medical studies, we can ensure we are researching possible treatments in a responsible and scientific way. The CBD oil we are studying is a non-intoxicating derivative of marijuana. It is not marijuana, and it is not anything that can make you ‘high.’ This law has been narrowly crafted to support highly supervised medical trials for children with debilitating seizures. It is not a first step towards legalizing marijuana, and I will never support the legalization of marijuana in Oklahoma.”
From what we understand Cannabinoids seem to tap into the ECS and produce extremely positive effects. CBD has this positive because it can interact with cells in our body because the CBD molecule is akin to a chemical the body produces naturally called endocannabinoids.

On Apr. 17, 2014, Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant signed HB 1231, “Harper Grace’s Law,” which allows for cannabis extract, oil, or resin that contains more than 15% CBD and less than 0.5% THC. “The CBD oil must be obtained from or tested by the National Center for Natural Products Research at the University of Mississippi and dispensed by the Department of Pharmacy Services at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.” The law also provides an affirmative defense for defendants suffering from a debilitating epileptic condition who accessed the CBD oil in accordance with the requirements set forth in the bill and is effective July 1, 2014.

As you can see, THC – whether smoked, ingested, or administered as oil – can result in positive and negative outcomes for the user. For you to experience maximum medicinal effects as a natural option, it’s recommended to research about strains and looking into their cannabinoid profile.

Medical marijuana is produced mainly from variants of Cannabis sativa that have been selectively bred to maximize their concentration in cannabinoids. Cannabis ruderalis is almost exclusively grown due to its naturally occurring very small quantities of THC .

The use of medical marijuana continues to be an emotionally and politically charged issue. Although cannabis oil preparations have been used in medicine for millennia, the concern over the dangers of abuse led to the banning of the medicinal use of marijuana in the 1930s.
Cannabidiol (CBD) oil is a natural, non-psychoactive concentrate extracted from hemp. Used on its own as a dietary supplement or infused into a plethora of products, CBD Hemp Oil is packed with vitamins to offer a wide range of natural therapeutic benefits.
Bergamaschi and colleagues investigated the anxiolytic efficacy of cannabidiol (CBD), a compound derived from the cannabis sativa plant, during a simulated public speaking task. Twenty-four treatment-naïve participants diagnosed with social anxiety disorder were randomized to either placebo or CBD and significant group differences were found on anxiety and related constructs (Bergamaschi et al., 2011). Though promising, further research is needed to investigate cannabidiol and its anxiolytic effects.
However, scientists are finding out that CBD has very little effect on CB1 and CB2 receptors, which probably explains why it doesn’t have mind-altering effects, unlike THC, which positively regulates the CB1 receptor. That’s why most marijuana grown for recreational purposes are typically very low in CBD and high in THC. (3)
Targeting the eCB system through the use of the commercially available oromucosal spray Sativex, a combination of the phytocannabinoids cannabidiol (CBD) and Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), has already proved beneficial for the treatment of neuropathic pain and spasticity in multiple sclerosis (Nurmikko et al., 2007; Notcutt et al., 2012). Furthermore, in a number of clinical trials modulation of the eCB system has improved behavioral symptoms in AD patients. In patients diagnosed with probable AD, a twice daily dose of 2.5 mg dronabinol, a phytocannabinoid derived from THC, was shown to reduce weight loss and improve disturbed behavior with minimal side effects of euphoria, drowsiness, and tiredness (Volicer et al., 1997). A more recent study has shown that in patients with late-stage AD, a single daily 2.5 mg dose of dronabinol improved nocturnal aggression and agitation with no adverse side effects (Walther et al., 2006). A single case study has also reported a reduction in the severity of agitation and resistiveness in a patient with mild AD through the use of nabilone, a CB1 receptor agonist (Passmore, 2008). Furthermore, ongoing placebo-controlled double-blind phase II clinical trials are being carried out on the safety and efficacy of Namisol, an oral tablet containing THC, in patients suffering from AD and vascular dementia. Measurable outcomes from these two studies include any alteration in neuropsychiatric symptoms, agitation, balance and mobility, pain, quality of life, and episodic memory (Rikkert, 2014a,b). To date, no clinical studies have been carried out on the effectiveness of these drugs on abrogating neurodegenerative processes in AD. There is, however, a wealth of preclinical data outlining the beneficial effects of cannabinoid treatment on neuroinflammation, excitotoxicity, oxidative stress, and neurodegeneration that may be of relevance to AD.
A number of studies over the last two decades or more have reported that CBD has anti-seizure activity, reducing the severity of seizures in animal models.vi,vii In addition, there have been a number of case studies and anecdotal reports suggesting that CBD may be effective in treating children with drug-resistant epilepsy.viii,ix,x However, there have only been a few small randomized clinical trials examining the efficacy of CBD as a treatment for epilepsy; the total number of subjects enrolled in these studies was 48. Three of the four studies reported positive results, including decreased frequency of seizures. However, the studies suffered from significant design flaws, including failure to fully quantify baseline seizure frequency, inadequate statistical analysis, and a lack of sufficient detail to adequately evaluate and interpret the findings.viii Therefore, the currently available information is insufficient to draw firm conclusions regarding the efficacy of CBD as a treatment for epilepsy; a recent Cochrane review concluded, there is a need for “a series of properly designed, high quality, and adequately powered trials.”xi
One of the most experienced practitioners in this field is Los Angeles physician Bonni Goldstein, who has used the compound to treat dozens of children with intractable epilepsy. She says about half of these patients have seen a significant drop in the number of seizures. “Used in the right way, with the right patient, CBD is extremely powerful,” she says.
Cannabidiol has very low affinity for the cannabinoid CB1 and CB2 receptors but is said to act as an indirect antagonist of these receptors. At the same time, it may potentiate the effects of THC by increasing CB1 receptor density or through another CB1 receptor-related mechanism.
